Earlier this summer, Longridge School of Samba launched a fundraiser to replace older instruments and source new equipment.
The instruments were either breaking or losing their sound, with one bell splitting in two, drums no longer ringing, and tambaram drum skins cracking.
The community stepped up to help them, with local donations and a significant boost from the Lancashire County Council Culture and Support Fund.

Creative director Steve Brown said: “All of the members at Longridge School of Samba are so grateful for the kind donations from individuals and organisations. Without their support we wouldn’t have reached our fundraising goal.”
Support also came from the Rotary Club of Longridge and North Preston, the Ian Rowes Community Fund, Frank Loughlin, and from local events like Field Days, and they were able to raise £1,312, which surpassed their goal of £1,300.
Steve said: “Our next steps are to develop our playing and grow the group of wonderful people that play in the samba band.
“We are on the lookout for new players to join us on a Wednesday evening for samba drumming sessions. Most of our players had never played the drums previously but will tell you how good samba is for your fitness, mental health and social life!”
Sessions run every Wednesday from 7pm at Longridge Sport Centre with first session free. For more information about Longridge School of Samba, visit their Facebook page.
