Preston’s SpudBros have undertaken their first regular feed of those in need in the city.

Announced last week on the jacket potato brothers TikTok channel the initiative operates after the tram closes for business on a Friday afternoon at the Flag Market.

Jacob Nelson said in the clip: “I just feel like we have got a big enough platform. We want to do something good in the world.

“When we saw the soup kitchen in Liverpool, I thought how can we bring something like that here.

“We want people to have a hot meal, for every Friday from now on if you need a hot meal come after 3pm and say “I’m hungry, or say have you got anything spare” and we’ll give you a meal and we’ll look after you.”

The first Friday feed took place last week and the SpudBros father Tony Nelson said they had given out several meals.

He told Blog Preston: “The Friday feed was really positive – we served several meals and the response from the community was heart-warming.

“It’s still early days with the initiative, but the support we’ve had has been fantastic, and we’re looking forward to continuing and building on it.”

Chief executive of The Foxton Centre, a charity who have been helping feed the city’s homeless for decades, Cath Coffey, said: “It’s great that Spudbros understand those in poverty and the need for food. We see it in our homeless services and in our youth and community services. Food is also about bringing people together and a shared commonality for everyone. F

“For those who are rough sleeping and in need, and those who are regularly going without a hot meal, I’m sure they really appreciate Spudbros and all the other food providers in the city helping them.”
