A family of farmers from Hoghton, near Preston, are in dreamland after winning a major agricultural award.
Lizzie and Steven Walker run Hoghton View Herefords at Lane Side Farm, Hoghton, and were named Family Farming Business of the Year at the British Farming Awards (BFAs) in Birmingham last week.
Posting on Facebook, Lizzie and Steven said: “This still hasn’t sunk in! To be named Farming Family Business of the Year at the British Farming Awards is such an honour.

“To stand alongside so many incredible people in agriculture was inspiring in itself — to come away with an award feels unbelievable. We’re so proud — and so grateful.”
Judges praised the couple for running ‘a progressive mixed beef and sheep enterprise built around efficiency, sustainability and family’.
They added that their herd of 50 pedigree Hereford cattle, which operates under the Hoghton View prefix, cattle that ‘have become central to the farm’s identity’.
The BFA citation added: “The business is a true three-generation partnership. Stephen and Lizzie Walker take the lead on breeding, livestock management, and marketing, while Lizzie’s parents remain actively involved, and even their three young children play a part.”
Run by Preston-based publication Farmers Guardian, which is based in Fulwood and traces its history back to 1844 in the city, originally as the Preston Guardian, the BFAs is one of the farming industry’s most glittering award nights.
