The Name a Gritter competition makes a return ahead of freezing temperatures ready to embrace Preston and its surrounding areas in the winter months.

Lancashire’s fleet of yellow gritters help keep the roads safe through the toughest winter conditions.

With 10 of the older gritters replaced with brand new vehicles, Lancashire residents are being given a chance to help name them.

A spokesperson for Lancashire County Council said: “Some of our 45-strong fleet already have names from previous competitions.

“Who will be joining Aunty Freeze, Melton John, Bobby Snowball, and Freezy Rider on Lancashire’s roads this winter?”
