A school has raised £300 in tribute to a much-loved former pupil who died last month.

Wellfield Academy hosted a five-a-side tournament in memory of the late football fan and Leyland father, Jordan Thomas.

Jordan Thomas, known by close family and friends as JT, died in September at the age of 25 from sepsis.

He was at the forefront of the school’s mind when raising awareness among pupils about the dangers of the condition.

The tournament, which took place over five days to signify the five lives every hour lost to sepsis, celebrated Jordan’s life and brought the school community together.

Jamie Lewis, headteacher at Wellfield Academy, said: “It was great to see our whole school getting involved over the last week, playing football, enjoying themselves, and most importantly, celebrating JT’s life.

“Sepsis is an incredibly cruel disease which can strike with little warning, so we’re pleased to have played a small part in raising awareness and funds through our tournament.”
