All lanes have now been re-opened on both the M6 and M61 after a horrific 16 hours on Lancashire’s motorways.
National Highways North West said the closure of the M6 southbound from Junction 28 to Junction 27 – which was shut after the death of a man in a two-car crash – has now been lifted.
The driver of the Astra, a man in his 50s, died at the scene after travelling the wrong way on the motorway near Charnock Richard Services shortly after 9.30pm on Sunday 26 October.

Two men, in their 40s, were in a Toyota Corolla which was hit and both are in hospital with serious injuries.
Police closed the motorway in both directions for six hours between Leyland and Standish for accident investigation work.
The southbound closure remain in force until 1pm on Monday (27 October) causing major delays as motorists tried to find alternative routes.
One of those being the M61 southbound, down to the M60 to then go round and join the M6 further south.
A three-car crash near Rivington Services at around 10.30am blocked two lanes of the M61 causing two-hour delays back towards Junction 31 of the M6.
All lanes on the M61 were re-opened around 12.30pm.
Delays remain on the M61 southbound and the M6 southbound as of Monday lunchtime.
The October half-term getaway is also causing delays on the M6 northbound from Junction 28 up to Junction 31 and also on the M61 northbound from Junction 8 up to the M6 spur.
Lancashire Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses and footage of the M6 crash.
