KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has called on members of Parliament to be cautious when discussing matters of crime intelligence in open platforms or in the media.
Mkhwanazi is appearing before the Ad Hoc Committee that was set up to investigate allegations around national security.
The committee was established to assess wide-ranging allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption, and political interference within the criminal justice system, that Mkhwanazi made in July.
Mkhwanazi has implicated Democratic Alliance (DA) MP, Diane Kohler-Barnard and National Coloured Congress (NCC) leader, Fadiel Adams at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry that they had access to crime intelligence information they weren’t supposed to.
Mkhwanazi called on MPs to be circumspect with sensitive information.
Meanwhile, some members of the committee, African National Congress (ANC) Chief Whip Mdumiseni Ntuli and David Skosana from the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) – have called on Kohler-Barnard, who is a member of the Ad Hoc Committee, to recuse herself.
