A two-wheeled peloton will wind its way through the city’s streets later this month.

Preston Pedals are running a Glow cycle ride on Wednesday 22 October from Moor Park as part of Cycling UKs campaign for safer cycling, especially for women.

This is no ordinary bike ride – it’s a glowing, rolling celebration for safer streets and a stronger cycling community.

Organisers Preston Pedals are a non-profit, co-operatively run organisation that is increasing the number of people who cycle in Preston.

The Glow Ride will start at Moor Park at 6pm and will light up the streets passing some of Preston’s most iconic spots, including University Square, the Harris Museum, Flag Market, Fishergate Hill and Avenham Park.

The ride is taking place across the UK for Cycling UK’s #MyRideOurRight Campaign. Together, Preston Pedals hope to shine a light on the need for safer streets in Preston for everyone.

Joanne Westwood from the Preston Pedals group said: “Our members come from different areas of Preston and we go on social rides regularly. One of our members, Fran suggested that we have a Glow Ride to raise awareness of people who cycle, and at night, and to have a fun ride through Preston city from Moor Park to Avenham Park.

“We will be using a combination of roads, shared paths and spaces which are used by both cyclists and pedestrians. We will also cycling on some of the new segregated cycling infrastructure in the city.

“Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or just getting started, everyone who cares about cycling safety is welcome to join the fun.”

Preston Pedals and Go Velo are bringing experienced ride leaders and there will be marshalls along the route.

Go Velo will be joining the ride to provide Dr Bike service from 5:30pm before the ride starts – with riders meeting at the Deepdale end of Moor Park Avenue.
