Prison sentence handed out to shoplifter who showed ‘flagrant disregard for court orders’

A man has been jailed after showing a ‘flagrant disregard for court orders’ and shoplifting in South Ribble.

John Molineux was charged with six counts of theft from shops, six sounds of breach of criminal behaviour orders and one count of attempted theft after targeting shops in South Ribble.

He appeared at Preston Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (16 October) where he pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to 48 weeks in prison.

He was described by the court as showing ‘a flagrant disregard for court orders’, police said, adding that he was also ordered to pay compensation to victims.

When Molineux is released, he will be subject to a criminal behaviour order that is valid until May 2027.

A spokesperson for police said: “Operation Vulture is the force’s campaign to tackle shoplifting across Lancashire. Shoplifting involves serious organised criminal gangs as well as prolific offenders and opportunistic thieves.”
