To brighten up an office day, I asked my colleague and friend Caroline if she would like to go to the pie shop for lunch. Who would say no to that?

I’d heard good things about Paul’s Pies and had wanted to try it for a while so hoping it was open, we headed down Fishergate. As we got closer, the enticing smell of pastry was a welcome scent.
The place was small, but a tasty and very golden looking counter greeted us and as I started to snap some pics, Paul also greeted us, jokingly asking for a pound a photo. There was a variety of pies, different flavoured sausage rolls, hotpot and desserts, and more cooking in the oven.

We took a brief time to decide, noticing the sweet treats in the fridge added a bit more deciding time but I couldn’t resist the Preston staple butter pie (£2.50) with mushy peas and gravy, and Caroline chose a sausage roll, yes… A plain sausage roll (£1.95). We picked a blondie (£1.75) to share as they were quite big, and I got a tandoori lamb sausage roll (£2.75) and a beef meat pie (£1.50) to take home.
Back in the office breakout room, we unwrapped our goodies and tucked in. The butter pie was simply pie perfection with buttery pastry, buttery filling, and a slightly crispy edge, which is how I like them. The pie was a decent size with a nice portion of tasty mushy peas and gravy. Yum. My campaign for Paul’s Pies with peas and gravy at Deepdale starts now. Caroline thought her sausage roll was lovely with good quality meat and she would have it again. As we went back to our desks, our colleague, after hearing us talking about pies, had just been to get one too. He had a peppered steak pie with peas and gravy and when I asked him how it was, he nodded for about five seconds and when he’d eaten it all up, said “I’m sad now.”

The blondie wasn’t what we expected but in a good way. We were expecting more of a plain blondie as it was just labelled as a blondie in the shop but Caroline thought it had a gingerbread taste and I could taste cinnamon, possibly Biscoff and it had a nice fudge texture. So, I’m not sure what type of blondie it was but it was delicious, and I’d like another please.

At tea time, I shared the beef meat pie, and the tandoori lamb sausage roll with my husband. The sausage roll was meaty, fragrant, and crispy… Superb. The meat pie was also spot on.

Paul’s Pies is my new go-to for a pie fix. I also noticed he does catering so will keep that in mind too. The total price for our lunch and my tea was £11.95. Bargain. Quality ingredients, fresh and flavourful, great portion sizes, you simply can’t go wrong with a pie from Paul. Or a sausage roll. Or a blondie.
What have you tried from Paul’s Pies? Let me know in the comments.
