Primary schools across Preston are being given a head start with a new Northern Community Bank initiative.
Northern Community Bank is providing local primary schools with a “money suitcase” containing resources designed to help children learn the basics of saving and budgeting.
With the £20,000 community donation, each suitcase will provide a child per week to read books about money and set to run alongside the PSHE curriculum around the “money matters” scheme.

Mr Harding, Deputy Headteacher at Brockholes Wood Primary School, said: “We are excited to launch this new maths initiative, helping our pupils build essential money skills that will support them in everyday life.
The resources kindly provided will help bring maths to life, empowering our pupils to understand and manage money with confidence.”

The non for-profit organisation was created by the mother of three, Claire Dodd, who said she was shocked after reading the statistics of financial literacy among children.
With the initiative currently being rolled out in Lancashire and Cumbria, Claire said the statistics made her even more determined to make a difference.
Claire Dodd, Account Support Officer at Northern Community Bank, who created the idea, said: “I remember the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee when my son came home with a commemorative book from school. “We sat down and read it together, learning and bonding at the same time.
She added: “That experience stayed with me and I wanted to recreate that moment of shared learning – but with a focus on money and life skills.”
