ActionSA says the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) should focus on measures that will boost economic growth and reduce unemployment.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana is scheduled to table the 2025 mid-term budget in Parliament on Wednesday afternoon. He will provide an update on the country’s economic performance.

ActionSA MP Alan Beesley says, “So for us it’s just about getting cheaper, more efficient energy, being able to transport goods – it’s very difficult to transport goods across our country, cutting down the amount of bureaucracy, red tape in our country.”

“Another thing that is becoming hugely alarming in our country at the moment is the growth of illicit trade – whether it’s cigarettes, alcohol, fuel – there’s just no focus on illicit trade and it’s clouding out the legal trade. So we’re hoping those four elements get covered in the budget.” -Reporting by Viola May
