A European shoe brand is preparing to open in Preston city centre.

Deichmann has taken on the former Emmaus charity store in Fishergate who relocated earlier this year to open one of the largest UK charity stores in the city.

Temporary signage has gone up and the firm has tabled planning applications to re-do the frontage of the store as well as put up new signs.

According to a planning application submitted to Preston City Council, the two existing retail units at ground floor level will be amalgamated to provide a sales area, staff facilities and stockroom. The upper floors will be mothballed and accessed only for maintenance.

The building dates from around 1970, following the demolition of a Victorian property in the 1960s, and its retail occupiers since then have included Boots, Mountain Warehouse and HMV.

The German headquartered retailer currently has stores in Blackburn and Blackpool and remains a family-run independent firm with 4,700 stores in 36 countries.

A spokesperson for the retailer told Blog Preston: “DEICHMANN is scheduled to open a new store in Preston in spring 2026 and we are creating 10-12 new roles; recruitment will commence in January. Preston will be a fantastic addition to our other stores in North West England.”

Repair works will be needed within the store as Blog Preston revealed in June there had been a burst water main and water damage within the building which was caused by a burglary.
