Higher Education Deputy Minister, Buti Manamela says he’s approaching courts to challenge the process of appointing the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) board.
Doctor Karen Stander, who was appointed to chair the newly constituted board after the previous one was dissolved and placed under administration, resigned, last Sunday.

Manamela says during the review process, the current NSFAS board will remain in place.
His spokesperson, Matshepo Seedat says the Minister wants accountability and commitment to keeping NSFAS stable.
“Importantly, the board remains in place and will continue to fulfil its duties until such time as the court sets the decision aside. The functioning and structure of NSFAS will not be affected by this application, and student servicing will continue without disruption. This decision is about taking collective responsibility for ensuring that the governance of NSFAS is not only effective, but legally compliant, stable, and resilient,” adds Seedat.
