Sandra Latimer, who volunteers daily in the Baby Beat shop inside Royal Preston Hospital, is set to take part in a charity five day trek.

Set to board a 16-hour flight to Siem Reap in Cambodia, Sandra will trek to the what is described as the twelfth wonder of the world, Angkor Wat Temple to raise funds for Baby Beat.

Taking place on 8 to 16 November, the team of 22 charity walkers will walk through forests, fields, and foothills of Mount Phnom Kulen.

Estimated to walk between 20 to 25 km per day in 30-degree heat, this isn’t Sandra’s first time fundraising for the charity, as she often helps out at various Baby Beat events.

She said: “Through volunteering for Baby Beat, I have done a tandem parachute jump and a sponsored abseil, so it has already taken me out of my comfort zone and challenged me.

“Now, it’s led to me going on an expedition, which is something I never thought I’d do.”

Sanda’s commitment to Baby Beat has shown since the birth of her youngest daughter.

The help of the team through the difficult birth inspired her to turn to volunteering for the trust, as she described the job to “fit her like a glove.”

Joanna Allitt, Baby Beat’s fundraising manager, said: “It’s fantastic that Sandra has signed up to the expedition team.

“She is Baby Beat’s only representative as her team mates are taking part to fundraise for either Rosemere Cancer Foundation or Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity, which are the other members of the trust’s charity family.

“Sandra has done a lot for us over many years, including scary bucket list challenges like her parachute jump and abseil.”

She continued: “Sandra is a true inspiration, showing that reaching a certain age is no barrier to living life to the full and seeking out new adventures.”
