Screen spotlight: What’s on in Preston cinemas 7 to 13 November

A major new addition in theatres this week is Predator: Badlands. The latest in the expansive series, and another from director Dan Trachtenberg. After Prey, this film launches into the distant future, with a new breed of the Yautja out to prove their abilities as the ultimate hunters.

Three times Academy Award nominated actor Ralph Fiennes stars in The Choral, a historical drama about young boys who join the choir after all the other capable men are enlisted into the war efforts during World War I. 

A Paw Patrol Christmas is a very special festive adventure with Ryder and his loyal canine companions.

This week will also see the early release of both The Running Man and Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. Both films are due to arrive in cinemas on the 14th, but The Running Man will appear in The Arc Cinema, Odeon, and Vue from the 11th, and The Flower Bowl from the 12th. Similarly Now You See Me: Now You Don’t will play in all theatres except for The Flower Bowl from the 12th.

Beyond the new releases, there are plenty of exciting event listings and exclusive showings in each of the cinemas around Preston. Of particular note is the Big Screen Movie Quiz With Ste-J, taking place on Wednesday. After the success of the last two months, the quiz has become a regular part of the line-up at The Arc. With prizes up for grabs, it’s a wonderful night out for friends and couples.

Train Dreams is an American drama film that has made the rounds at film festivals, and is due to arrive on Netflix later in November. However, The Arc Cinema has secured the rights to stream the film a few weeks ahead of its widespread release.

Back to the Future is back on the big screen 40 years after the film first debuted. This is a major milestone for a landmark sci-fi film, and as such, cinemas across Preston are making a big deal of the movie with special merch on sale.

Both the Odeon and The Arc have held regular preview screenings, which they call their Screen Unseen and Mystery Movie Night’s respectively, but this week, all of the cinemas in Preston are getting in on the action. While there is no certainty that all cinemas are playing the same film, it is being touted as a big theatrical release coming early to these screens.

NT Live: Mrs. Warren’s Profession

National Theatre Live presents the fantastic Imelda Staunton in this live recording of the play by George Bernard Shaw. The show first played in London in 1902, and now, more than a century later, it has been reimagined and given pride of place on the big screen.
