VCEL Encourages Lothians to Volunteer on World Kindness Day with Easy-to-Use Locator App

The smallest act of kindness can create a big impact on others.

To mark World Kindness Day on Thursday, November 13th, the team at Volunteer Centre East Lothian (VCEL) is encouraging more people to show compassion and unity through voluntary work. Finding local volunteering opportunities across East Lothian, Edinburgh, and the wider Lothians region is now easier and more accessible than ever, thanks to VCEL’s interactive Locator app.

The VCEL Locator features more than 700 services from over 600 organisations, all illustrated on an interactive map of the region. Each entry includes the service and organisation name, a description of the service and contact details, making it as easy as possible for willing volunteers to find opportunities in their area. Anyone can view the free-to-access app on the VCEL website, and voluntary and community groups, charities, social enterprises and any other third sector organisations can upload their services to appear on the Locator map.

From helping in the fight against climate change, to tackling poverty and inspiring the next generation to reach their full potential, the team at this third sector interface is keen to highlight the huge range of projects that locals can get involved in.

Speaking ahead of World Kindness Day, VCEL Chief Officer Maureen Allan said;

“There are so many benefits of volunteering. From boosting physical health and improving mental wellbeing, to the confidence and pride that comes from knowing you’re making a positive difference to society.
