The woman was hit shortly before 8am on Tuesday (16 December).

Police described the scene – which was closed off for six hours – as ‘very complex’. They have thanked members of the public in and around the area for their help, support and understanding while Preston Old Road nearby was closed.

Detective Sergeant Matt Davidson, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This collision has very sadly resulted in a woman losing her life and my thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this time. I would appeal for anyone who saw what happened or who has any footage and who hasn’t yet spoken to police to come forward and contact us.”

All roads are now understood to have re-opened in Freckleton.

Anyone who saw what happened or who has any footage or information can call police on 101 quoting log 0215 of December 16 or email SCIU@lancashire.police.uk
