A Preston community hub is in line for a complete refurbishment, along with an extension that will see a new cafe created for locals.
The Catherine Beckett Community Centre, on Meadow Street in Deepdale, is set for a two-phase overhaul, with the first round of works being for essential repairs, including to the building’s roof.
If given the go-ahead by Preston City Council, that will then be followed by a wholesale revamp of the site to deliver what architect Studio John Bridge describes as “a more versatile and appealing” venue.

The second-phase facelift will involve extending the front of the building to form a new main entrance, cafe and office – as well as a side entrance to the area used for boxing, which will itself be extended.
According to documents submitted to town hall planners, an upgraded community kitchen and refurbished toilets and shower facilities also feature within the blueprint, together with the construction of “a glazed corridor” that will connect the community hall to the boxing and gym area.A Preston community hub is in line for a major refurbishment and extension which will also see a new cafe created for locals.

All the existing red-brick elements of the building are to be maintained and repaired where necessary, with black and natural-coloured cladding also added.
