The M61 was brought to a standstill due to a crash during peak travel time.
Emergency services were called to the M61 on the northbound carriageway between junction 6 for Horwich and junction 8 for Chorley at around 7.30am on Monday morning (22 December).
All traffic is reportedly stopped and there are severe delays heading northbound as a result.

On the southbound carriageway, there is a lane closure and further delays as commuters slow past the scene of the crash to look.
North West Ambulance Service is also in attendance.
