City of Johannesburg MMC for Finance Loyiso Masuku says there is a need to educate communities about compliance with building regulations, to ensure safety and prevent structures that strain infrastructure.
This follows the demise of three family members including a toddler, during the collapse of a double-storey building in which they were housed, at Doornkop, Soweto, over the weekend.
Masuku visits the area where the structure is being demolished. She says they have acted swiftly with the Executive Mayor Dada Morero to ensure the safety of its residents.
