New Zealanders were amongst the first in the world to celebrate the arrival of 2026 with a fireworks display in Auckland on Thursday.
The fireworks show started with a 10-second countdown projected on the base of Auckland’s 328-metre tall Sky Tower, followed by fireworks illuminating the night sky.
According to organisers, the fireworks launched from three levels on Sky Tower sending 3,500 firework shots around the tower and soaring 80 metres above the tower.
The display lasted five minutes with more than 500 kilograms of pyrotechnics launched from the Sky Tower and the Auckland Harbour Bridge also illuminated.
