A residential children’s home for youngsters aged between four and 18 could be created in Longridge if plans are approved.
Under proposals submitted to Ribble Valley Borough Council (RVBC) by Kirkby Lonsdale-based Hopscotch Care, 2A Monks Drive, Longridge, would become a home for up to two children at any one time.
Hopscotch Care runs multiple homes and currently provides support for 23 young people in Cumbria and Lancashire.

In the design and access statement, it says: “The proposal is to retain the property to residential use to be used as a residential care setting for up to two children, who could be aged between four and 18, and with staff providing care 24/7 on a rota basis.
“No staff would live on the site, but would always be present. Children could be there for long term care, or short term. Typically, there would be four or five persons in the house.”
It says the children would be expected to attend local schools and encouraged to ‘make local friends and become involved with the community’.
The statement concludes: “There is a clear need for this home [and] there is a social responsibility within the planning system to ensure that such needs are met and a legal responsibility on the council to provide such homes.”
