Rain warning in place for 48-hours from Saturday evening

A weather warning has been issued for Preston and parts of Lancashire over the weekend as 48-hours of rain is set to batter the city.

The warning – the lowest level set by the Met Office – is in place from 6pm on Saturday (13 December) until 6pm on Monday (15 December).

The Met Office state that periods of heavy rain may lead to travel disruption and some flooding.

Around 50-70mm of rain is expected and strong south-westerly winds are possible during the warning period, say the weather forecaster.

Preston’s current forecast shows the heaviest rain being the late morning and lunchtime on the Sunday and Monday with Monday lunchtime seeing particularly intense rainfall according to the rain forecast radar.

The Met Office state: “Spray flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and road closures, as well as potential delays or cancellations to rail and bus services.

“There could be possible power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.”
