On our last few meetups my friend Sarah had mentioned trying out Hamadan on Inglewhite Road in Longridge. Having never heard of it or been for a curry in a long time, it became the venue for our next catch-up.

Sarah had booked but there was no need, it was a cold Monday night before Christmas and the place was empty and quite cold, perhaps with the lack of bodies keeping the place warm. Despite being the only in house diners, the staff did handover takeaways to a couple of delivery drivers whilst we were there.

The menu was full of interesting options, and we decided to go the whole hog with Papadoms and a Chutney Tray (£6.50), starters and a main. I went for the Chicken Pakora (£4) and a Chicken Tikka Makani (£11.90), whilst Sarah chose the Onion Bhaji (£3.90) and the Chicken Balti (£10.50). We both had boring soft drinks with it being a Monday night, but we did push the boat out and order a Garlic Nan (£4).

My pakoras were cooked perfectly, crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside. A Makani is my go-to curry and whilst I should venture out of my comfort zone next time, I played it safe. The Hamadan Makani was different to ones I’ve had before, sweeter (perhaps a little too sweet) with a stronger coconut flavour, but I still enjoyed it, and the sauce was a nice contrast with the garlic nan. Sarah thought the bhajis, like my pakoras were nice and crisp and the Balti was rich, flavoursome, and delicious and added that it was one of the nicest Baltis she’d had. I did try some, it wasn’t as spicy as I thought it would be and I agreed, it was delicious. So, lesson learned… try new things at the next curry house.

We agreed that all the food had been authentic, rich and flavourful, the service friendly although a little inattentive a couple of times despite being the only diners but with the food appearing in suitable time. We were happy with a reasonable bill of £50.70 and agreed we would certainly return. Next time, stepping out of my curry comfort zone.
Let me know which Indian restaurant to try next in the comments.
