The SABC News team in New York, Sherwin Bryce-Pease and Aaron Berbrick, were last night awarded the Gold Medal in the Ricardo Ortega Memorial Prize category.
The medal was awarded at the United Nations (UN) Correspondents Gala Awards for broadcast coverage of the UN, its agencies and field operations.
The UN Correspondents Association awarded them the top prize for their September interview with the UN Emergency Relief Coordinator, Tom Fletcher.
It explored in detail the challenges and trauma experienced by humanitarian workers in the field and the dwindling funding for operations, particularly in Gaza, Sudan and the DRC.
The event was held at UN Headquarters in Manhattan and was attended by UN ambassadors, high-level UN officials, Hollywood celebrities, humanitarians, and corporate and cultural organisations, as well as media from around the globe.
