A self storage facility consisting of 42 shipping containers could be created in Barnacre if plans are approved.
The site is situated to the eastern side of Hazelhead Lane, north east of Garstang, and consists of a large building and yard, previously used as a granulation plant for electrical cable.
The applicant is R.E. Buildings, which specialises in steel framed agricultural buildings and is based at Bay Horse, Lancaster.

The planning statement says: “The proposed development is for the change of use of a granulation plant yard to storage and distribution and siting of shipping containers for use as a self-storage facility.
“There will be 42 storage containers on site, providing customers a secure place to store belongings, together with 18 car parking spaces in close proximity. A further 13 overflow parking spaces are provided to the north of the site.”
It adds: “Whilst the site is not within an established industrial or employment area, it has been used
for industrial purposes since 1987 when the use was changed to a granulation plant, prior to which it had been a sawmill.
“The applicant, R.E. Buildings, is an existing rural business based at Bay Horse, Lancaster who provide specialist steel framed agricultural buildings. The proposal is an opportunity for the business to expand into self-storage and therefore supports the extension of an existing business.”
