Police in Cape Town have made several arrests in the early hours of this morning during coordinated take down operations on the Cape Flats. These included the arrest of a suspect believed to be responsible for the Athlone Court murder which left the community in shock earlier this year.
The Anti Gang Unit (AGU), in collaboration with SAPS partners, executed near simultaneous arrests and apprehended several suspects wanted for dangerous crimes, including murder.
Targeting Manenberg, Athlone and Mitchells Plain the police were on a mission to execute as many warrants as possible.
This follows the recent crime statistics report, which revealed a major increase in violent crimes during the second quarter of the year by nearly 9%.
Police are yet to comment fully on the operations.
A detailed statement is expected on Sunday.
