A house in Garstang could be converted into an independent living space for adults with a range of disabilities and health issues if plans are approved.

In plans submitted by Garstang-based GA Associates on behalf of Vanessa Wherry, 6 Chester Close could see a single storey rear extension added as the property becomes an accessible care facility capable of providing supported living accommodation.

The design and access statement says: “The property will operate as small-scale residential care home for up to four adults (aged 18 and over) with learning and/or physical disabilities, supported by Shared approach, a CQC registered care provider contracted by Lancashire County Council.

“Some of the residents are wheelchair users, have complex epilepsy, cerebral palsy, PICA, and scoliosis in addition to sight/ and or hearing impairment.

“Care will be provided 24 hours a day by a small, consistent team of maximum three staff at any one time, working on a shift basis. Typically, up to three carers will be present during the day and one carer overnight.

“The operation of the home will be indistinguishable from that of any other domestic dwelling. Family and social worker visits will be occasional and discreet, limited to daytime hours only, and will not generate any noticeable noise, activity, or parking demand beyond that of a typical household.

“The pattern of comings and goings will be modest and comparable to a typical household with adult occupants leaving for work or social activities.”
