Police have made 234 arrests for drink-driving over the Christmas period as part of their annual campaign.

Operation Limit is part of a national campaign aimed at preventing drug and drink related casualties over the Christmas period with December and July the times where road traffic incidents peak.

The goal of the campaign is to deter people from making the wrong decisions in the first place, police told Blog Preston earlier this month at the launch of the campaign, but they will take action where necessary.

Of the 61 arrests made in the fourth week of the campaign, 32 were arrested on suspicion of driving with excess drugs and 18 on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol.

One incident saw a woman in Bamber Bridge blow 118 at the roadside which equates to over three times the legal limit.

Those arrested included people working in the airport industry, in finance, in retail and students, police said.
