19-year-old driver of an MG dies in Grimsargh crash

A man has died in a crash which closed Preston Road in Grimsargh for six hours during Sunday.

A 19-year-old man, the driver of a green MG TF, was declared dead at the scene despite efforts by emergency services to save him.

A large-scale Lancashire Police presence along with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service crews were sent to the road close to the John Turner Construction turn after reports of a crash involving two cars.

The MG had been involved in crash with a black Audi Q7 close to the bend where Longridge Road becomes Preston Road. Blog Preston understands it was a head-on collision between the two cars.

The driver of the Audi, a woman in her 40s, has minor injuries and has been taken to hospital. Police say she is being treated as a witness at this time in their investigation.

Specially trained officers are supporting the family of the MG driver after the devastating crash. Police have confirmed the driver was from Penwortham.

Detective Sergeant Matt Davidson of the serious collision investigation unit said:” Sadly, a young man has lost his life as a result of this collision and my thoughts are with his loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.

“We know that the road being closed for a significant amount of time will have affected people’s journeys, and I want to thank those affected for their patience and understanding today whilst we responded to and began our investigation into the collision.

“Our enquiries are ongoing, and I am asking for your help with those enquiries by appealing for any information or footage that may assist us.

“If you have CCTV or Dashcam of Preston Road between Grimsargh and Preston between 9:45am and 10am today, we would be particularly interested in seeing it.

“If you witnessed the collision or the moments prior to or after the collision and haven’t yet spoken to us, please come forward and get in touch.”

Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has information is asked to contact police on 101 or SCIU@lancashire.police.uk quoting log 0333 of 18th January 2026.

Police closed Preston Road from Skew Bridge down to The Hills in Grimsargh from shortly before 10am until 4pm on Sunday (16 January). The road has now fully reopened.

The stretch of road is close to where a fatal crash took place in April 2024 when a man in his 60s suffered a medical episode and hit a bus shelter and church wall close to Grimsargh St Michaels church.

Clarification: This story originally reported that Lancashire Police said the man who died was 18, police have given us updated information which confirmed he is 19.
