A man has been jailed for nearly four years after his blood was matched to the scene of a burglary in Penwortham.

A watch worth £5,000, a laptop and a bike were taken during the raid in Leyland Road in October 2024.

Lancashire Police uncovered blood on a mobile phone box in a bedroom at the property – and matched to Ian Rowling, 40, of Greater Manchester.

Officers also found footwear marks on the dining room floor.

The property had seen the back door smashed to gain entry and all the lights were left on in the house.

DNA matching by forensics linked the burglary to the 40-year-old of Grange Close, Hyde, who pleaded guilty to burglary of a dwelling.

At Preston Crown Court on Monday 27 January he was jailed for three years and eight months.
