Dog rescued from freezing water at London Road by fire crews at 4am

A dog was rescued from freezing water at London Road in the early hours of the morning.

Crews from Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service were called to London Road at around 4am on Monday morning (5 January).

They discovered a dog in the water, particularly concerning given temperatures fell to -7C overnight, and worked using a sled to rescue the dog, which was then returned to its owner.

Fire crews were in attendance for around one hour and thirty minutes.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “At 03:53 on 5 January 2026, two fire engines from Preston and Penwortham as well as the water incident unit from Preston attended an incident on London Road, Preston.

“Crews utilised a sled to rescue one dog from water which was handed into the care of its owner. Crews were engaged on scene for approximately one hour and thirty minutes.”
