A 73-space car park in the centre of Leyland is closing after this weekend to be built on to become home to part of the multi-million pound redevelopment of the town centre.
Ecroyd Street car park in Leyland town centre will be closed permanently from Monday (19 January) so that work can begin on a new market square as a part of the Leyland Town Deal.
Alongside the new market square will be numerous commercial and residential buildings are part of the £38-million regeneration scheme for Leyland’s town centre.

Work has already begun on the residential part of the project, with numerous new council homes under construction on the Iddons Factory site.
Councillor Matthew Tomlinson, leader of South Ribble Borough Council, said: “2026 will see the Leyland Town Deal works develop rapidly, and it’s great that we can kick off the new year with work commencing on what will be a fantastic new market square for the town centre.
“As with many large-scale development projects, a vast amount of work is largely unseen. Lots of enabling works and preparation needs to be done to allow for significant build or refurbishment to take place and much of this work has now been done.
“This year people will see work happening very visibly and at pace and I hope people can see the value this work will bring to Leyland and the impact it will have on the town for generations to come.”

South Ribble-headquartered company Eric Wright group is managing the project. They have previously worked on other Lancashire projects such as the Animate leisure and cinema complex in Preston city centre.
Steve Reid, pre-construction director at Eric Wright Construction, said: “We are delighted to commence the enabling works on what will see the transformation of Leyland Town Centre.
“This significant milestone represents the successful conclusion of an extensive and detailed design process undertaken in a collaborative manner with South Ribble Borough Council. We look forward to providing further updates as the construction works progress.”
Leyland Town Deal’s redevelopment scheme is due to be finished by 2027.
