Man dies in hospital after Fishwick scrambler bike crash

A man who was seriously injured after being thrown from his bike in a crash between Christmas and New Year has died.

Lancashire Police have confirmed Alex Swales, 33, died in hospital from multiple injuries sustained in the crash involving an off-road bike and a Renault Clio.

It took place at the junction of Arnhem Road and Fishwick Parade around 4pm on Sunday 28 December.

Four other off-road bikes were at the junction in Fishwick when the crash took place.

By the time police arrived shortly after the collision all the bikes had been removed from the scene, and the other riders had left the area.

Two men, both aged in their 30s and from Preston, have been released pending further investigation after being arrested in connection with the crash.

The pair were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and one of the two men was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Police said the Renault driver was unhurt.

A police spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with Alex Swales loved ones at this time.

“Our investigation into the collision is continuing and we would continue to appeal to anyone who saw what happened or who has any footage of either the collision itself or the bikes in the time before or after the collision, to get in touch.

“While we have made two arrests as part of our investigation, our enquiries are very much continuing.”
