Plans to open a 24-hour drive-thru McDonald’s at Tickled Trout Services are set to be approved.

The fast food giant wants to build its latest restaurant on vacant land between the petrol station and Preston New Road and says it will lead to the creation of 70 jobs.

The site is located off junction 31 of the M6 motorway east of Preston and lies within the South Ribble Borough Council boundary. The council’s planning committee will discuss the proposal at a public meeting next Thursday (January 15) and an officer’s report recommends the application be approved.

The land currently comprises a vacant area of hardstanding surrounded by vegetation and has access which is currently blocked off by concrete boulders. Here, McDonald’s wants to build a new restaurant which will include a drive-thru option and seating inside for 50.

There will be a total 29 parking spaces provided, including two disabled spaces and two waiting bays. The plans include three motorcycle parking bays, a cycle shelter and two pedestrian crossings.

A report recommending the plans be approved states: “The proposed erection of a drive thru restaurant/hot food takeaway with ancillary infrastructure is considered to be acceptable.

“The proposal will be sited on previously developed land and it is considered that the development will not cause substantial harm to openness in the Green Belt. It will not have a detrimental impact on the character and appearance of the area and will re-use an existing derelict site providing employment and a well-designed scheme.

“There would be no impact on the amenities of any residential properties as a result of the proposed development. There have been no objections received to the proposed development.”
