A Preston contestant on The Traitors is facing an early exit from the castle after being shortlisted for murder by the new ‘secret traitor’.

Maz, 59 and a civil servant from Preston, joined the latest series of The Traitors alongside 21 other constants as it returned on New Year’s Day (January 1).

His surname has not been revealed but he said ahead of the show’s return: “I’m 59 and I’ve done various things in my life, so I feel as though I’ve got good life experience.

“I’m told that I’m good to get on with and I’m funny – my kids say I’m funny looking. I think I can bring some humour, some chilled out moments, some interesting thoughts, and I think I will be able to add to the jigsaw of the game.”

But his time on the show could be short-lived after he was listed as a candidate for murder by the ‘secret traitor’ – a new wrinkle to the show for this season.

His shortlisting, alongside James and Netty, ultimately means that he is not the secret traitor.

The Traitors has managed to become appointment-to-view television in an era where streaming has diversified and fragmented viewing habits.

This was helped by Alan Carr’s run to victory in The Celebrity Traitors.

Maz’s five children and five grandchildren will be hoping that he can hang on despite being the bookies’ favourite to leave the show.

Gambling.com’s entertainment expert James Leyfield has Maz at 13/8 to be the first contestant to be murdered, and therefore leave the show.
