Extensive scaffolding has gone up around a building on the corner of a busy Preston junction.

It follows safety concerns about the building which houses the Furness Building Society and a Catholic charity on the corner of Chapel Street and Fishergate.

Engineers were called out in early November for investigation works after large cracks were spotted running down the side of the building.

The Preston branch of the Furness Building Society, which only relocated to the site in the last year, has continued to be open throughout any works.

A spokesperson for Furness Building Society commented: “Our Preston branch is open as usual and our members are assured safe access for all branch services. We are working with our landlord and Preston City Council to support them as work continues to repair the building.”

Blog Preston understands the building is owned by the nearby St Wilfrid’s Church.
