NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Andrew Holland said Ingram was believed to be "armed and dangerous".

"It looks like it's a domestic violence-related incident," he told Today.

"All the victims appear to be related to the offender at this stage, and that's the avenue our investigations will take at this point."

Specialist police, including tactical officers, have flown in to Lake Cargelligo and are now undertaking a large-scale search for the suspected shooter, Ingram.

He is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, about 165cm-170cm tall, of medium build, with short dark hair, and brown eyes.
