The entertainment and leisure complex had been put up for sale in February last year, but appears to have failed to attract a buyer.

A statement posted on the doors of the venue by Kirk Wilkinson, director of Guy’s Eating Establishment’s Limited, said: “After 46 years of trading, we can confirm that Guy’s Thatched Hamlet has now closed.

“This has been a difficult decision and one made with considerable thought.

“We would like to sincerely thank our customers, staff and suppliers for their loyalty and support over the years.

“The hamlet has meant a great deal to many people, and as it moves through a period of transition, our focus is on bringing this chapter to close.”

The same statement has been posted on the Guy’s website.

Details on Companies House show the firm behind the leisure complex is late filing its latest accounts although an application to be struck off had been delayed as of mid-January.

The parent firm of Guy’s Eating Establishment Ltd, Thatched Hamlet Limited, in its latest available accounts for 2023 showed a £144,171 loss in 2023 down from a 553,136 profit in 2021. A statement in the accounts blamed the economic pressure on hospitality along with a very wet August in 2022.

The increase in costs of butter, oil, flour and pasta are also mentioned along with the rising energy costs for the size of the site.

When put up for sale last February the site was listed as having an annual turnover of around £4.2million.
