Residents in over a hundred properties near Chorley have been told not to drink water after a ‘third party’ connected to the supply without permission.
The 107 properties are at The Asshawes and Chorley Road in Heath Charnock and United Utilities said that the advice is ‘precautionary’.
The water provider warns that you should not drink tap water, use it to clean teeth, wash wounds or prepare food and that boiling the water will not make it safe.

Bottled water has been delivered to the affected homes.
Blog Preston understands that a customer has, unintentionally but without permission, connected into the water network.
An investigation into that happening is ongoing.
A spokesperson for United Utilities said: “We have issued a precautionary do not drink notice to 107 properties in parts of Heath Charnock, Lancashire, after identifying that a third party has connected into the water network without our permission.
“Because this water hasn’t been supplied by United Utilities, we are asking customers not to use tap water for drinking or food preparation whilst we carry out a full set of water quality tests. These tests are already underway, and the notice will be lifted as soon as we are confident the water is safe to drink.
“Customers can still use tap water for bathing, cleaning and toilet flushing and bottled water has been delivered to affected homes for drinking and cooking.
“We are very sorry for the worry and disruption to customers, but it is important we take the necessary measures to protect public health whist we investigate.”
The postcodes affected are PR6 9JH, PR6 9JL, PR6 9JN, PR6 9JR, PR6 9JW but not all properties in those postcodes are affected.
