Police have made an arrest of a driver who was three-times the legal alcohol limit while driving on the M6.

South Ribble Police say they were called to the hard shoulder between Standish and Leyland on Thursday afternoon – by the motorist who was then breathalysed on suspicion of drink-driving.

A police spokesperson said: “When someone calls you ranting and raving, wanting you to help them because they’ve broken down…. all to arrive and find out they’re way above the drink drive limit.

“Yesterday afternoon at around 2pm we received a call from the Highways Agency related to an irate man who had broken down on the M6 between Standish and Leyland.

“After receiving multiple calls, our officers felt something wasn’t right and made their way to the motorway.

“Following a breath test, the man blew 121, which is more than three times the legal limit and he was arrested.”

A 39-year-old man, from Accrington, was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and is now in custody.
