Gauteng Finance and Economic Development MEC Lebogang Maile has urged communities, businesses, and government departments to pay for municipal services. He says non-payment is crippling municipalities’ finances and affecting their ability to deliver basic services such as water and sanitation across the province.

Maile has called for urgent compliance to help to stabilise municipal budgets and keep essential services running.
“We know that there are instances where there are inaccurate bills from the municipalities, hence there are disputes sometimes. So, we also want to urge municipalities to work on the credibility of their billing systems, because if they don’t work on the credibility of their billing systems, some of these problems will persist.
