The artist-led creative collective known as October Salon has a busy few weeks ahead.
Since moving to Lit Bar, the Open Salon sessions have been providing a supportive, collective space for anyone to take along their arts practice. They are currently scheduled for 12pm to 4pm on Saturday 21 February and Sunday 1 March, and 4pm to 8pm on Monday 23 February and Monday 2 March.
The Open Salon is part of an ongoing calendar of events, with the next one – Drawing Group, Drawing with Light – taking place on Sunday 22 February from 12pm to 4pm. Jo Cooke and Bernie Velvick will be lighting the space with spotlights and coloured lights and encouraging attendees to draw their favourite object.
From Wednesday 25 February to Tuesday 3 March, crochet designer Luke Godden will be exhibiting. On Saturday 28 February, Jam Poetry will bring a day of improvised music and poetry to the space. It’s a chance to have a jam with your very own backing band, and experience isn’t necessary.

On Friday 6 March from 6pm to 9pm there will be a Jacob’s Join and a screening of Watching Paint Dry by Hans Browne. To fund their artistic practice, Hans works as a painter and decorator. The experimental, durational performance will explore the laborious yet meditative process.
The October Salon ethos is that anyone can be an artist, and they aim to be an entry point to being active in the Preston and Central Lancashire scene. The collective is also keen to reach art students wanting to apply their classroom learning and experienced artists looking to share their knowledge with the community.
All dates and details should be checked on the October Salon calendar before visiting. To find out more, follow @october_salon on Instagram.
