Lancaster University School of Mathematics (LUSoM) is a specialist maths sixth form, based in the heart of Preston.
Designed specifically for students with an exceptional aptitude and passion for mathematics, with world-class facilities and a curriculum to match.
LUSoM has recently been celebrating success recently as they have been ranked by The Times as the fifth best sixth form in the country and seven of their students have received offers to study at either Oxford or Cambridge universities.
Head of school, Pete Tiltman is delighted with the national recognition for the school.
He said: “For our first set of results to put us so high in the national tables is a real testament to the hard work of both staff and students. The ranking is based on the percentage of students getting high grades in the most valuable A-levels.
“We are entering the era of the mathematical sciences, and we know that our students are going on to the top universities and degree apprenticeships to contribute to the ever expanding field of STEM subjects which will drive the economy both of the county and the country in the years to come.”

The school has consistently had success with applications to Oxford and Cambridge, and this year was no different with over a third of applicants getting an offer.
Pete Tiltman added “LUSoM offers a unique curriculum which goes far above and beyond the standard A-level curriculum. We work hard to ensure our students develop research and presentation skills through our project work and the links with the university.
“They learn to become intelligent, confident, articulate students who can succeed in interviews, and the proof is in the offers they get, not just Oxford and Cambridge, but other top universities and competitive degree apprenticeships with companies such as BAE and Dyson. We know they will all have bright futures in front of them.”

LUSoM will host their final open day of the academic year on Saturday 14th March, and is now available to book on their website.
