Burlesque Chair Dance classes are helping to empower Preston women through fitness, fun and friendship.

Using a chair as a prop for seductive and playful routines, Burlesque Chair Dance blends dance, basic acrobatics, and cabaret-style movements.

Weekly classes take place at venues in Fulwood, Leyland, Croston, Freckleton and Chorley.

The Fulwood class is held at Lonsdale Club every Thursday between 7pm and 8pm. They are led by Miss Bonnie Clyde, who joined Burlesque Chair Dance in 2024.

“After many years in and out of dance training, and never really finding a place where I felt I fit in, Burlesque Chair Dance made me feel like I belonged,” Miss Bonnie Clyde said. “Every woman deserves to feel confident and empowered, and I chose to become an instructor to pass that feeling on.”

In addition to weekly fitness sessions, Burlesque Chair Dance offers specialised lessons including Fire Breathing, Ostrich Feather Fan Dancing, Big Boa, and – new for 2026 – Giant Champagne Glass Masterclasses. The team is preparing for the Lancashire Annual Show on Friday 24 July, where dancers aged 18 to 74 will perform.

Charity work forms a significant part of the group’s activities. Last year, members raised £10,000 for Mind challenges such as the Yorkshire Three Peaks, a midnight Burlesque-athon, and skydiving.

Donna Haughan from Burlesque Chair Dance Head Office believes the classes provide a supportive environment for women from a wide range of backgrounds.

She said: “Women of all ages, shapes, sizes, abilities, nationalities, beliefs, and occupations – and the LGBTQ community – have joined our classes, forming a sisterhood of women who empower women.

“When women come together they create a safe, supportive place where confidence and self-esteem can flourish, goals can be more easily achieved, and happiness returns and blossoms.”
