A new international celebration of independent and original filmmaking is coming to Preston.
Dragonfly International Film Festival’s inaugural screening and awards night will take place on Saturday 7 March at The Continental in Broadgate.
Launched in 2025, Dragonfly International Film Festival was founded to champion bold, authentic storytelling and to provide a platform for filmmakers from across the globe.
The event this month will bring together filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences for an evening of curated screenings and awards recognising excellence in independent cinema.
The night will be hosted by John ‘Gilly’ Gillmore, who will guide audiences through the screenings and awards presentation.
A highlight of the night is expected to be the screening of To Be Frank – a feature documentary exploring the life, career, and creative journey of musician Frank Benbini of Fun Lovin’ Criminals, UB40, and Uncle Frank.

Festival Director John Corrin said: “We started Dragonfly to celebrate filmmakers who take risks and tell stories that matter. Bringing our first screening and awards night to Preston feels special, and we can’t wait to share To Be Frank with everyone.”
Co-Director Susan Moffat added: “We wanted Dragonfly to feel welcoming and filmmaker-focused from day one. This first event is a big moment for us, and we’re excited to celebrate it with so many talented creatives.”
The awards presentation will recognise outstanding achievements across a range of categories, reflecting the festival’s commitment to diversity, creativity, and independent spirit.
