Do you know someone who goes above and beyond to make a difference in their community?
Perhaps a dedicated mentor, a passionate environmentalist or a volunteer who always puts others first? Volunteer Centre East Lothian (VCEL) is inviting local people to nominate these everyday heroes for an Inspiring Volunteer Award.
The annual awards are returning this year with a refreshed format designed to be more inclusive than ever. Rather than choosing a single winner in each category, every shortlisted nominee will be recognised as an award recipient, receiving a certificate and a small thank-you gift at a special celebration ceremony in May.
Speaking ahead of the launch, VCEL Chief Officer Maureen Allan said,
“These awards are all about shining a spotlight on the people whose dedication, compassion and hard work make our communities stronger, kinder and more connected.
“It’s so important to come together and recognise the difference volunteers are making across East Lothian every day. They ask for nothing in return, yet their positive impact can be felt right across the region.
“Nominating someone takes just a few seconds, but it’s a great way of saying thank you to the people who selflessly give their time, skills and passion to support others.”
Anyone who volunteers in East Lothian can be nominated and there are seven categories to choose from. Those who make the shortlist will be invited to attend the Inspiring Volunteer Awards ceremony on Friday 29th May at East Lothian Co‑operative Bowling & Social Club, Tranent. This special celebratory event will feature afternoon tea, music and entertainment, as well as soundbites of nominees and photos showcasing the volunteers in action.

The closing date for nominations is Friday 3rd April 2026 at 5pm and the categories are as follows:
