Emergency services worked through the morning to ensure the public’s safety after a fire in an upstairs flat on New Hall Lane.

Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service and Lancashire Constabulary were called to the scene of the fire at 8.19am on Tuesday morning (3 March).

Police were at the scene to assist with managing the road closure, which affected New Hall Lane between Skeffington Road and Fishwick Road, and prevented access from Geoffrey Street and Mosley Street.

Nadeem Ashfaq, who is the chair of interfaith charity The Light Foundation, was among those caught in the traffic caused by the fire and closure.

He told Blog Preston: “I was among the first caught in traffic near the barber shop fire in Preston this morning. I saw frightened school children and neighbours. Emergency services were calm and highly professional throughout.

“Thank you to them for keeping everyone safe.”
