Overnight closures on Grimsargh’s long-running bridge widening project are set to run into May.

Lancashire County Council has confirmed to Blog Preston further details of the overnight closures.

Works on the bridge are due to be completed during May and overnight closures had been due during April but will now run slightly longer than planned.

Skew Bridge in Preston Road is to close for ten nights from Monday 27 April through until Friday 8 May.

The road will close at 10pm each night until 5.45am. A signed diversion route will be in place encouraging traffic to go via Goosnargh and Broughton rather than use Whittingham Lane and Haighton Green Lane.

A spokesperson for the county council told Blog Preston: “There will be overnight road closures and a diversion set up for up to 10 nights. These are currently scheduled for between Mon 27/04/26 & Fri 08/05/26 but may vary closer to the time.

“However, the road will be open to traffic during the day, and the buses and the traffic management staff manning the location will be the same as during last week’s closure.

“This will allow the road to be resurfaced and a mini roundabout installed at Ribblesdale place.”

Temporary traffic lights are continuing to cause delays on Preston Road since their return earlier in March.

The bridge widening scheme, costing £2.2million, was due to be finished by November last year but is running six months behind schedule due to ‘unforeseen drainage systems’ being uncovered when piling work began last summer on the current bridge.

What was due to be six weeks of temporary traffic lights has ended up becoming months on end of temporary lights with motorists regularly left fuming at contractor AEYates not manually controlling the lights at peak times to ease congestion heading to and from Longridge and the motorway.
